221 RESTAURANT & BAR at the Royal Oak Hotel Cessnock took out the top prize of “Best Restaurant in a Pub/Club/Tavern” at the National 2014 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence at the industry’s gala night of night’s celebration held at the Peninsula in Victoria.
There were over 1300 participants from metropolitan and regional areas across the country involved in this year’s program. The Awards recognise businesses which excel in best practice and standards and exhibit outstanding commitment to quality and service.
“Becoming a National winner is a significant acknowledgement and a great compliment to the hardworking team at the Royal Oak. It’s not only great for the Hotel, it increases the potential to capture new customers to Cessnock and the region” said the Hotel’s owner Alexandra Morphett.
221’s Head Chef is local boy Gianni Slaviero. With extensive experience in both city and regional restaurants, Gianni is ideally suited to creating menus for the Hotel’s clientele, which ranges from local residents to those visiting from Sydney and surrounds, interstate and overseas.
He leads a team of dedicated and talented chefs, and together they deliver consistently great quality food to customers every day. The Hotel’s floor staff were also an important component of the award winning equation with the quality of customer service and delivery a major part of the judging .
The Royal Oak’s expanding tourist trade has the benefit of providing employment for local people – with over 30 full-time and part-time staff employed there.
“We are excited that this win will help make Cessnock a more visible tourist destination”, added Alexandra.
Through the RACES Evaluation System, venues were assessed by trained judges who dine anonymously and review the experience according to a predetermined, research-based and standardised set of criteria, making it the only truly systematic restaurant industry awards program in Australia.
