Since its opening in November 2011, the Hotel’s Restaurant, 221 RESTAURANT & BAR, has won numerous awards for its food and service. There’s also the public Bar with a separate food menu (live music every Saturday night), a comfortable Lounge filled with Chesterfield sofas, a popular Café and the Garden with Marquee and a kids cubby house.
About the Kitchen
Before joining the Royal Oak Hotel, Head Chef Gianni Slaviero gained extensive experience in a number of high profile restaurants – including Catalina in Rose Bay, Hayman Island, Flying Fish in Pyrmont, Pier in Rose Bay and Roberts Restaurant in Pokolbin. With experience in both city and regional restaurants, he understands and is ideally suited to creating menus for the Hotel’s varied clientele. He leads a team of six other Chefs including two expert Pastry Chefs – all talented in their own right – and three apprentices.
Our accomplished Kitchen team is committed to producing consistently great quality food. Whether preparing and cooking for the Restaurant’s extensive à la carte menu, special occasion dining, degustations, Bar fare and gourmet wood-fired pizzas or the Café’s baked goods, their culinary skills offer a range of dining experiences that has made the Royal Oak Hotel one of the Hunter’s most popular food destinations.
The Hotel’s kitchen uses only the freshest and best quality sustainable produce, sourced locally whenever possible.
Royal Oak Hotel Kitchen Garden and Vineyard
The Kitchen Garden produces organic herbs, edible flowers, heirloom and standard vegetables exclusively for the Restaurant – as well as an abundance of free-range eggs.
The Vineyard produces the Hotel’s house Sparkling Chardonnay (made in the Champagne style), Chardonnay and Verdelho.
Clean, comfortable and affordable, the Royal Oak Hotel is the ideal base for couples or groups to stay when visiting the Hunter Valley or coming to enjoy a great weekend at the Hotel to experience our delicious food. Approximately 10 mins drive from Cessnock to the Hunter’s famous vineyards, there’s plenty to do and see in the area.
We welcome you!
We recently booked 8 rooms at the Royal Oak for a weekend away with friends and had the most wonderful experience.
We arrived on the Friday night and enjoyed a few drinks and the lovely pizzas in the renovated bar / lounge. The accommodation was great. Each room is renovated in a very refreshing and stylish way and opens up onto the big old balconly that was lovely to sit out on in the morning and soak up the sun. Included in your night’s accommodation was coffee and muffin from the lovely little cafe down stairs. We also ordered bacon and egg rolls for everyone – they were very fresh and large! A huge favourite before our day out in the vineyards.
